Functional medicine nutrition aims to address the root cause of imbalances in the body by restoring function through food, lifestyle and therapeutic supplement interventions.
Involving a series of steps to determine the treatment plan that’s just right for you begins with taking a comprehensive look at your whole self which includes getting to know your health history, lifestyle, genetics, and symptoms.
After this, a personalized program is put together which includes recommendations on nutrition, movement, lifestyle adjustment, supplements, and more.

Sophie Knapp, MScN, CN is a Holistic Nutritionist. Holistic nutrition involves a nutritionist getting to understand the full picture of their clients’ lives to uncover the root cause of their dis-ease and design a nutrition and lifestyle protocol that will work for the client’s life, personality, and preferences. Holistic nutritionists use client interviews and in-depth laboratory testing to get a thorough understanding of who their client is and leave no stone unturned to find the true cause of their suffering. They are also trained in health coaching and will be there to hold their clients capable and be a pillar of support throughout the healing process.
Once the roots of dis-ease have been identified, the nutritionist works in a client-oriented manner to collaboratively design a personalized nutrition & lifestyle plan for the client to implement to cultivate healing. The plan could include any of the following aspects: food as medicine, supplements, movement recommendations, stress-relief techniques, and more. Contact Sophie.
Acupuncture is one therapeutic arm of what is known as East Asian Medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine, honed and practiced by lineages of scholars and doctors over thousands of years throughout China, Japan and other parts of East Asia before coming to the United States. Hair fine, sterile, single-use needles are inserted into the skin at various points that intersect meridians across the body, initiating a healing response within and throughout the body and harmonizing the nervous system. Acupuncture can be used to treat a vast array of ailments and conditions, including anxiety, musculoskeletal pain, digestive complaints, headaches, infertility and upper respiratory illnesses, just to name a few!
Devin McDermott is a licensed Acupuncturist and East Asian Medicine practitioner (L.Ac., EAMP) based on Bainbridge Island and in Poulsbo. She completed her Master's at the vigorous apprenticeship style program at Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine (SIEAM) in 2019. Her mission as a practitioner is to provide a sanctuary for patients to feel held, heard and empowered, delivering efficacious treatments that allow for the vital intelligence of the body to initiate healing and rebalancing.

Birth Doula's are trained and experienced professionals who provide physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual support during pregnancy, continuous care during labor and delivery, and hands-on support in the home during the first six weeks postpartum. Birth Doulas do not provide medical support, but work collaboratively alongside medical care providers as an integral part of the care team to make sure that the birthing person has the information and support they need to have an empowered, autonomous, and satisfying birth experience.
Placenta Encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta for daily consumption by the postpartum person in the form of capsules, much like any herbal supplement or vitamin! Placenta has been used in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years, dating back to the first Materia Medica. Placenta was traditionally used to address an imbalance of Yin, and to support and replenish one's life essence, which is referred to as “jing” in Chinese medicine.
Sophia Tschida CD(DONA) is an experienced full spectrum Birth Doula and placenta encapsulator based on Bainbridge Island, WA.
